Shania Twain week! Once again, I'm crushed that Katie isn't still in the game; I really wanted to see if Simon was right.
(Though, once again, I hate single-artist weeks. They shoulda had her as mentor, and kept the theme as "country.")
Lee, "You're Still the One" [on acoustic guitar]
S'okay.
Ellen: "All aboard the Shania 'twain'!" ...you know she was waiting to use that one.
Tickets for this year's Idol tour will go on sale the weekend of May 14th.
Mike, "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing"
This may be the end of the line for Mike. I wasn't feeling that at all.
(Though... nice job on the rehabilitation effort. Starting on the Purple Staircase of Being in Touch with One's Feminine Side was an interesting touch.)
Casey, "Don't!" [on acoustic guitar]
This was better than the other two so far tonight, but it was still just okay.
I suppose part of the point behind making it Shania Week instead of Country Week is that it's letting everyone get away with not even trying to sing these as country songs. Hmmph.
Crystal, "No One Needs to Know" [on acoustic guitar]
...Crystal just told her boyfriend to "man up" on national television. Or at least implied that he hasn't done so yet. That'll go over well... especially since the implied call for him to propose already completely jars with the theme of the song she's singing.
Anyway. Meh. Props for trying a more country arrangement, but this was her weakest performance.
(Ooh, don't talk back, Crystal...)
Crystal's boyfriend's T-shirt: "Did you know that America prefers Crystal Bowersox for their Idol one BAJILLION times more than the other contestants?" In point of fact, I did not!
Aaron, "You've Got a Way"
Ugh. No, no, he doesn't. That was terrible.
Kara appreciates that he changed the lyrics from "the way we make love," given that he presumably, you know, hasn't. Just to prove that it could get even more awkward, Aaron says he was singing it to his mom.
(What are the judges on this week? Does it sound that much different in the studio?)
Siobhan, "Any Man of Mine"
...maybe it's just me. I haven't been getting enough sleep.
Thank goodness for those last notes, though. They fit perfectly this time.
The Shania 'twain' joke doesn't get any funnier the second time, Ellen.
Predictions go below. Don't ask me...
