Neil Diamond night. Two performances apiece!
And judging only after the second song. Huh.
Jason Castro: "Forever in Blue Jeans"
Pleasant, mellow. A fairly typical Jason Castro performance.
David Cook: "I'm Alive"
Drat. Ex-landlady called, and there were serious connection troubles, and the upshot is that I missed the next three-and-a-half songs.
Brooke White: ...something.
[Apparently it was "I'm a Believer."]
David Archuleta: ...something else.
[Apparently it was "Sweet Caroline"? Really?!]
Syesha Mercado: ...something else again. Arrrgh!
[Apparently it was "Hello Again."]
End-of-round judge roundups.
Paula looks at her notes and comments on both of Jason's songs, forgetting that he's only actually sung one so far. Ah, live television.
[Off to Idol Chatter to find out what I missed...]
Jason Castro: "September Morn"
See above. He's Jason.
Randy isn't feeling it. Another "okay, whatever" performance.
Paula... ditto.
Simon... ditto ditto.
David Cook: "All I Really Need Is You"
Eh. Neil Diamond and David Cook are not a match made in heaven. It shows.
On the other hand, the judges all loved it.
Ooh, Brooke's disputing Simon's opinion of her first song. Okay, then...
Brooke White: "I Am, I Said"
Her performance is okay, but, y'know, she's working with some of the worst lyrics ever to hit the charts.
David Archuleta: "Coming to America"
Eh. Okay. But, y'know, again, lousy song, suitable only for commercials. I think I'm having trouble with the whole Neil Diamond Night concept.
Syesha Mercado: "Thank the Lord for the Night Time"
Not bad! So she's probably doomed. [wry smile]
Having missed half the performances, it's hard for me to have much of an opinion.
Posted by Shmuel at April 29, 2008 8:01 PMOh man - I have NO idea who is going home this week. Jason is just phoning it in now. I think he wants out, but I'm hoping his tight jeans will keep him in so I can keep looking at him. Syesha was the best in the first round, but her second one not so much. She could get the pity vote, but America really doesn't like her. Cook sucked on his first song, but did really well on his second. Ditto Brooke. All that smiling during I'm a Believer made me want to hit her. And Archuleta? Let's just say that before the show started, I told my mother that I would vote for anyone who sang 'America' unless it was David Cook - in his case, I'd cut him some slack this week. So I voted for the first time this season because 'America' and I are in love. How can you not secretly love that song, Shmuel???? It RULES. Especially the whole 'My country 'tis of thee' part. I also may have voted for anyone who sang 'Love on the Rocks,' but alas. For the record, I did curse at my TV when David Cook let out a particularly smarmy grin when someone cheered for him. Who is going? AAAGGGHH!! I don't know. I say bottom two are Jason and Syesha - I have a feeling Jason may go, but I'm not going to put him down because - well, he's hot, dude. HOT.
1. Archuleta
2. Effing Cook
3. Brooke
4. Jason
5. Syesha
I'm voting for Syesha, in large measure because I'm still bitter about Carly. Still mulling over my picks for the pool.
Posted by: Shmuel at April 29, 2008 9:26 PMOkay, I hit redial more or less continuously for the entire voting period. Why? Because after last week, I'm out for blood. I want either Jason or Brooke out sooooo badly...
Posted by: Shmuel at April 29, 2008 11:03 PMI'm with you on Brooke, but you leave Jason and his tight jeans alone! Mama needs something to look at!
Posted by: Pam at April 29, 2008 11:17 PM1. David Cook
2. Syesha
3. Archuleta
4. Brooke
5. Jason Castro
1. Archuleta
2. David Cook
3. Syesha
4. Jason
5. Brooke
I'm waffling on the relative placement of the bottom two. Here goes nothing...
1. David Cook
2. Syesha
3. David Archuleta
4. Jason
5. Brooke
Oy. I missed the show.
But based on reading this, I am keeping my choices posted yesterday afternoon.
