Top 12: Pool Predictions, Anyone?

It's the first week of the finals! I'm typing this at school, on break partway through tonight's class, and have just realized that I forgot to turn my VCR off. Darn it. I'll probably download the episode after the fact (you may have noticed the "torrents" link in the sidebar), but perhaps not in time to use it for my predictions.

Oh, well. In any event, your predictions for this week can be posted in the comments to this entry, or e-mailed to me. Best of luck!

This will be the toughest week because it's the first time that the nasties will have to go head to head: We don't know how America will vote when they have to choose between a girl or a boy.

That being said, the bottom three HAVE to be Nikko, Lindsay and Mikalah. I doubt seriously that the Mario voters will turn to Nikko (or actually anyone, maybe Anwar).

That being the case:

1. Bo
2. Nadia (that could easily flip and you know Mikalah must have gotten song dibs...if anyone should have sung Preacher Man. I mean come on.)
3. Constantine
4. Carrie
5. Anwar
6.Vonzell
7. Scott
8. Jessica
9. Anthony
10. Lindsay
11. Mikalah
12. Nikko

I had to tape the show, just watched it.
This is a tough week, and this is my first time, but here goes:

1. Bo
2. Nadia
3. Carrie
4. Constantine
5. Vonzell
6. Anthony
7. Anwar
8. Jessica
9. Nikko
10. Scott
11. Lindsey
12. Mikalah

I had JUST enough time to get in a few votes before 11pm. I am a Carrie fan, and I voted for her. Unfortunately this week, I think she needs it. She wasn't the best, IMHO.

TeKay: Actually, I thought Nadia had the better song choice. Maybe it's just that I hear it constantly at karaoke, but I think "Son of a Preacher Man" is overdone, and doesn't have that much range anyway. The song she sang was much better, not to mention the best performance of the night. (I ranked Bo a close second, followed by Anthony, Carrie, and Nikko.)

While I would dearly love to see Mikalah go this week, or even next week, I have a sinking feeling that she's going to be this year's Jon Peter Gracin McKibbin. But I'd be very happy to be proven wrong about that.

Anyway, here are my wild guesses:

1. Bo
2. Nadia
3. Anthony
4. Carrie
5. Mikalah
6. Constantine
7. Nikko
8. Vonzell
9. Anwar
10. Jessica
11. Scott
12. Lindsey

Um, can we just ban Heather now? GIRL, how can you NOT WATCH THE SHOW and still get everything right??!!

Shmuel, I completely understand where you are coming from regarding the "Preacher Man." I happen to love it, still even after the different versions I've suffered through. And in a backhanded way, you've proven my point. Nadia doesn't have a range...maybe an octave and that's stretching a bit. Though she did give the best performance of the night, when she modulated to compensate for the note she should have song at the end, that's where I was through with that performance. I like her a lot, but Nadia is a performer, not a singer.

I like Mikalah's camp factor, she is fabu. She knows she doesn't have a snowball's chance in Hell of winning the thing, but is going to have fun to the bitter end. But then I like Babs as well, so mini-Babs is fine as a personality, not a performer.

I bet Nikko is saying: I'm safe for three weeks at least.

Tekay-
Hi, I just felt the need to jump in here. You mentioned that Nadia is a "performer, not a singer" Yet you say that Mikalah is a "personality, not a performer."

I shall bite my tongue about Mikalah *smirk* but point out that performance is VERY important! I do personally feel that Nadia has a good voice, and I LOVE the song she chose- which is by far a more difficult song than "Son of a Preacher Man" but yes, she DOES perform, and that is something that counts. This competition is NOT just about vocals.

I like Mikalah slightly better than Babs, but then...
I hate Babs. ;)

No offense intended, just joining in...

Hey Jesse, I definitely meant the distinctions between the three categories I stated. I'm not belittling anyone at all by calling them a performer not a singer, just my observation. I love the performers because it does take a combination of both to be a star.

Singer: These people are talented vocalist. You can hear great attacks, excellent phrasing, good support all that goes into singing (whether they are doing Jodeci runs or not) Anwar, Vonzell, Anthony, Carrie, Bo

Performers: more charisma than ability usually, can have an audience eating out of the palm of their hands in an instant.

Nadia, she simply has a limited range, it is a good voice and I really like her, but you can feel the upward mobility of a song and she progresses it downwards so that she doesn't crack., Mario (there was a lot of thinness to his voice that was masked), Connie (his RENT days are all over that stage)

Personalities: these have limited singing ability, but a kitchy quality that helps us like them. TRAVIS TUCKER!!! what was he all about, if he hadn't a been cute he would have gone the first night. Mikalah, the Fran/Babs combo has audience members pulling for her. I'm sure Aloha cries everytime she hears her sing.

A difficult song sung adequately versus a simple song sung well will only impress the judges.

Later!!!
