Ninety percent of
The Italian Republic
Is Roman Catholic.
(The above haiku
Assumes you pronounce the word
"Cath-lic." Just two beats.)
(If you pronounce it
"Cath-o-lic," use: "Republic's
Roman Catholic.")
I like the way you played with the constraints here. Fun stuff.
Posted by: Sherck at December 13, 2011 10:55 AMWell, that's nominally true. In my experience, in some parts of the country, most people rarely set foot in a church after, say, confirmation. Maybe even after baptism.
Until they get married. And even then, it's usually more about a pretty setting (or pleasing elderly relatives) than any real connection to the church.
Posted by: Plin at December 13, 2011 1:26 PMYeah, that doesn't actually surprise me. Sadly, neither haiku nor the statistics in almanacs have a whole lot of room for nuance.
(The CIA World Factbook, which has a bit more space, clarifies that only about a third of that total is "practicing.")

Now give us a real update.
*poses with arms crossed and brow raised... I am VERY convincing! Grrr*
