3:35 AM:

Have gotten more cardboard boxes. Still not sure how I'm gonna get the ones I've already filled down to the basement; on the other hand, am having sort of a packing party tomorrow -- later today, by this point (good grief!) -- which might help.

Need sleep. Also, need forklift, and/or a bag of holding, and/or a troop of elves who will magically pack the entire apartment up while I sleep, in such a way that I will instantly know what's in each box when it comes time to unpack them.

Oh, don't I just wish.

Otherwise, have gone to the post office and arranged for my mail to be held until such time as I figure out where it ought to be forwarded to. Have returned my library books. Have e-mailed my sublettor-to-be with the terms of the sublease, and with a request for information with which to do a credit check. (Have not yet received such information, however.) Have gotten more cardboard boxes. Have gotten more packing tape. And have done some more packing, although there is still a hell of a lot left to go; I'm not even at the halfway point. Meep.

Stay tuned.

6:07 PM:

This week's Friday Five is all about romantic love and stuff, and none of it really applies to me, so I'm not doing it. But I will use it as the catalyst to scribble down this observation, which I made almost a year ago:

I've noted, on a survey or two in this journal, that I didn't believe in "love at first sight." On the other hand, I was reminded a bit under a year ago that I did quite definitely believe in "like at first sight," and even "friendship at first sight." Which seemed at least a little contradictory.

What I ended up confronting was the fact that I actually had no trouble with the "at first sight" bit; it's the "love" part that I didn't really believe in.

I'm still figuring out what to do with, or about, that.

6:18 PM:

Oh, yeah, okay, long-overdue karaoke update: the place was packed this week. I selected "The Impossible Dream" as my first song, and "Crocodile Rock" as my second, fully expecting the first to flop and the second to rock, as usual. By the time it got to be my turn, I'd already come to the conclusion that I'd made a serious mistake, that, given the size of the crowd, I should've gone straight to the Elton John song, both because the energy level was higher, and because I doubted there'd be time for me to get a second song in.

I still stand by that assessment, truth be told, but rather to my surprise, the song went pretty darn well anyway. (The music and lyrics supplied were for the Jack Jones version; I went with the original Broadway lyrics. I had stuff to say about the wretched revisions, but the moment has passed, and, anyway, I ought to be packing.) And I suppose that, as swan songs go, that ain't a bad one.

5:55 PM:

It's a very small change to the index page, and yet it isn't. (The old version, for the sake of comparison, is here.) I've given this journal's address to so many people I know in Real Life that the original warning was starting to look ridiculous, and I think it's outlived its usefulness. As for the family... I'm still not looking forward to the day when the mishpocha finds this place, but, you know, there are worse fates.

4:35 PM:

This-or-That, umm, Tuesday:

  1. Cats or dogs?
    Cats.
  2. Butterflies or birds?
    Butterflies.
  3. Horses or cows?
    Cows.
  4. Turtles or snakes?
    Turtles.
  5. Frogs or grasshoppers?
    Neither.
  6. Lions or tigers?
    Bears. Oh, my!
  7. Elephants or mice?
    Mice.
  8. Porcupines or aardvarks?
    Aardvarks.
  9. Unicorns or dragons?
Tough one. But I'll go with the dragons.
  10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You live in a rather dumpy apartment. A friend offers you a chance to be a roommate at a new place s/he is moving into, but they don't allow pets. You have a pet. Do you find your pet a new home and take the new place, or do you keep your pet and stay put?
I'd stay put in a place where I didn't have to live with roommates.

1:47 PM:

Two problems with packing by myself:

  1. I'm easily distracted, and tend not to keep packing for very long in any given session.
  2. I'm not the world's strongest person, and, anyway, books are heavy. The upshot being that I now have four boxes packed in my living room, which I can't get out of the living room, 'cause I don't think I can safely lug them to the basement by myself.
There's also a cardboard box crisis in progress; I'm almost out of them.

But aside from that... actually, aside from that, things are pretty hectic, thanks. Stay tuned.

8:18 PM:

Holy cannoli, I'm actually moving.

So, having looked over my finances and realized that I really do need to move into Boston and get a job as soon as I possibly can, I've decided to accept the offer of the sublettor I'd found. He'll be signing the lease and moving in on Monday, giving me until Sunday to pack everything in my apartment up and stow it all in the storage area in the basement. This is gonna be interesting.

The details of what I'll be doing Monday onward have yet to be worked out, but I'm guessing they'll involve going directly to Boston and actively seeking out a place to live. Stay tuned.

(Oh, and I'll get to that karaoke update soonish, not that there's all that much to report. Honest! I'm just a bit preoccupied at the moment, you understand.)

2:20 AM:

Four (four!) alcohol units this week. Also, stayed out an hour later than usual. Am feeling fine, but also on verge of collapsing in exhaustion. Karaoke report in the morning, then. G'night, y'all!

12:42 AM:

They've changed Clay's first single, so that it'll include "Bridge Over Troubled Water." I am so buying a copy. That is all.
