I'm late!

Poetry, Etc.

As Kymm's latest entry suggests, I've got stuff to write about, and, for once, I'll actually be able to refer to people other than myself along the way! But first, I really need to catch up on what I've been up to in the past week or so. And, due to a combination of exhaustion and poor planning, that's probably all I'll have a chance to get to before Shabbos starts, so if you came from Kymm's site looking for more details, or if you're Kymm, Tracing, or Lucy and are looking to see what I'm writing behind your backs, check back on Sunday, and I should have that done. :-)

Last Thursday's poetry workshop was something of a disaster. Owing to lack of sleep and food on my part, and to lack of writing ability on the part of my classmates, I was feeling rather irritable, and I'm afraid it showed. Which is to say that while I may have been completely correct in pointing out how the metaphor that started a classmate's poem didn't make any sense at all, perhaps I shouldn't have referred to it as a "train wreck."

By the time we got to my poem, at the end of class, discussion abruptly veered away from the poem, and instead focused on myself, and my alleged arrogance. Class crashed to a halt shortly thereafter.

Much sturm und drang followed, with Yours Truly first stopping by The Professor Whose Book-- okay, that's it. I need a label for this guy. Let's call him Professor J.

So, much sturm und drang followed, with Yours Truly first stopping by Professor J's office, recounting everything from my point of view and using a certain Anglo-Saxon monosyllable a great many times. I then went home and spoke to a few friends on the phone, this time without the Anglo Saxon, getting much good advice and thoughful analysis along the way.

Anyway, to make a long story short, as sundown really is nigh, I spoke to the poetry workshop professor on Tuesday, and class this past Thursday was civil all around, and, on the whole, it looks as if I'll make it through the semester.

My eye has been bothering me for the past few days, which worries me, as it's really not supposed to do that. For now, I'm assuming that it isn't really anything major, and am hoping the irritation just goes away. If it's still like this by Sunday, though, I'm going to have to see a doctor or something.

On the way out of college yesterday, I ducked into the college paper's office and grabbed a copy of the latest issue. My first column has finally appeared, and while the layout doesn't look very good, I'm pretty happy it's there.

In the meantime... looking over at the paper's masthead, I immediately realized that something looked wrong, and, a moment later, I realized what. Apparently, somebody sabotaged the thing, covering up the real masthead with a replacement, which lists the editor-in-chief in every single last position on the paper. There not being many opportunities to do this, I can only assume that this was a disgruntled staff member, perhaps upset about the way the editor-in-chief has pretty much taken over the paper, and hasn't exactly been low-profile about it.

Needless to say, this was a despicable act. Disgraceful. In terrible taste. All of which I noted, after I finally stopped laughing my head off.

Now I'm just wondering whether this issue is really going to be distributed across the campus, or whether the editor-in-chief is going to catch on and block the thing.

Time's up. See you later!
