Haircut

So... orientation at the Campers' Paradise was today.

Well, no, actually, it's tomorrow for the male staff, but I have jury duty tomorrow. And orientation for the female staff was today, so, given the circumstances, I went there instead.

I was up from 10 PM the night before, as it happened. After all was said and done at camp, and went to the family home in the neighborhood, just as my mother was leaving. I ended up deciding to stay until she got back, because I needed a haircut, and, for religious reasons, wouldn't be able to get one for a few weeks, starting Thursday.

I suppose I ought to clarify at this point that I've never been to an actual barber in my life. Most of my haircuts have come from my mother. A few were given by my grandmother; one by my sister; and a handful by fellow students, during the two years I was in Israel.

Given the tone of much of the rest of this journal, I suppose I ought to say that there is no cultural or religious reason for this. I suppose it's primarily due to a desire on the part of my family not to spend money on barbers when you can do it yourself instead.

Besides, having gone twenty-six straight years without a barber (well, only twenty-three count, I guess; I didn't get any haircuts for the first three years of my life), it'd be a pity to ruin the streak now. :-)

Anyway, I napped for a bit, and got up, and got a haircut, and got driven back to my apartment, and went to sleep, and got up. And, as I type this early "tomorrow," which is to say Monday morning, it's hot and muggy -- I made the mistake of leaving the window open on Sunday, which turned out to be a very humid day -- and I still don't have a fan, and I have a slight bit of a headache, and, on the whole, I'd rather be playing Scrabble. In a climate-controlled room, or at least one with a dehumidifier.

Really, it's like a swamp in here. I'm sweating like crazy.

I suppose it'll be better once I get outside, where I'll be shortly be heading to find the courthouse (which, as far as I can tell, is well within walking distance, perhaps a half-hour away). And I imagine they'll have air-conditioning or something there. And, with any luck, I'll make it through the day without falling asleep.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. This is supposed to be Sunday's entry. Okay. Well, I've pretty much covered Sunday, I guess. You'll note that I didn't mention anything about having written the first issue of the camp paper. That's because it still hasn't happened. I've been developing my ideas for it further, though...

Turns out my boss wasn't even expecting an issue for the first week, which in no way alters the fact that I want to write one. This is the setup for the whole summer, and I want to get the show on the road.

Anyway. I've gotta get ready to roll, I guess. See you soon!
