You've Got Jury Duty!

I had a whole other entry I was planning on writing, but my mood has suddenly shifted. I just called the telephone standby juror line, and, sure enough, I have to report to court at 9 AM on Monday.

One complication of all this is that I'm supposed to be at the Campers' Paradise on Monday for a mandatory pre-camp orientation session. Now, I think there was another such session on Sunday for the female staff, which I could attend under the circumstances, but I can't find the letter about it at the moment. I'll have to find out, though...

I also have to write up the first issue of my camp newsletter pronto. Saturday night would be a good time, under the circumstances. Or perhaps I can comandeer the computer lab on Sunday and write it there. Hmmmm.

I've never been on jury duty before, although I know people who have been, so I'm not entirely certain what to expect. I suppose my dream scenario would have me assigned to a jury right off the bat, with the case decided in two days flat, so I'd be done in time for the first day of camp, but I suppose that's too much to hope for.

I have no desire to get out of serving altogether, though. I've never quite understood how people can complain about the justice system, and then turn around and try to avoid jury duty. Well, okay, perhaps I can understand it -- at best, the jury system is the least of the available evils, and I'm not even sold on that -- but I can't say I approve. As long as the rules are the way they are, you can at least do your part to make them work as well as possible.

Okay, now that I've finished acting sanctimonious again... well, actually, that'll do for now. I've gotta get ready for Shabbos and stuff. Have a great weekend, and I'll see y'all soon!
